WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Whether you heard the final out of Jordan Zimmermann’s no-hitter on the radio or saw it on TV, you know it wouldn’t have been possible without Steven Souza Jr.’s improbable diving catch.

Nationals play-by-play announcer Charlie Slowes was predictably turnt for his game-winning call on the radio.

And on Monday, Souza offered a riveting oral history of what was going through his mind in the moments leading up to the catch, and his immediate relief after securing the ball in his glove.

“I don’t think I have that gear in me all the time,” Souza told Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier. “But I just took off and everything in me wanted me to catch that ball for him, and I would have broken my neck and laid on the ground if I had to to catch that ball for him.”

Combining these two elements, 106.7 The Fan creative director Brian Peck put together a pretty awesome remix of Souza describing his real-time thought process, mixed with intermittent cuts of Slowes’ radio call.

It sounds really, really cool.
